Charity begins at home
We are fortunate to meet during the year many of Britain’s hard working Mayors who are so important in their roles, representing their boroughs and their areas and also raising funds for vital charities. We are proud to help them by raising funds from you, our visitors, and passing them on.
That is why George Irvin was so pleased to be invited to present a cheque from our annual fair in Shepherds Bush to the Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham, Councillor Mercy Umeh, who was elected in May and who is raising funds this year for Lupus UK as her chosen charity to support during her mayoral year.
Systematic lupus is a chronic and presently incurable illness of the immune system, a condition in which the body’s defence mechanism begins to attack itself through an excess of antibodies in the blood stream causing inflammation and damage in the joints, muscle and other organs.
So we hope our contribution will help Mercy in her work and wish her every success. We appreciate and recognise how hard her year will be, but how rewarding too! Good luck to Mercy and all London’s Mayors. (By the way, when all the Mayors meet they call it the Chain Gang! Always tickles us that!)
